MARCHING EAGLE BAND
The ACA Marching Eagle Band is an award-winning marching band that travels and competes throughout the state of Alabama. This group is comprised of young musicians and color guard members that develop and perform a field show for competition. These students share a passion for performing and strive for excellence
ACA's Marching Band is made up of 8th-12th graders who have met the playing requirements to be in Advanced Band Class. The current requirement for Marching Band is that students can demonstrate mastery of the skills learned in Beginning & Intermediate Band. In addition, students must demonstrate the ability to perform all 12 major scales.
Band Camp is always held during the last two full weeks before school begins. Percussion and Color Guard will have a pre-camp week prior to the full band camp due to the level of time needed to learn their parts/routines. Band Camp is taught by the ACA directors, camp staff, and student leadership. Approximately "7 weeks worth" of normal rehearsal time is crammed into two weeks so attendance is a MUST.
ADVANCED BAND
Advanced Band is also referred to as Marching Band (marching season) or Symphonic Band (concert season). Due to the difficulty of music played in Advanced Band, it's crucial that students can thoroughly demonstrate the concepts previously learned in Beginning and Intermediate Band.
INTERMEDIATE BAND
The Intermediate Band is comprised of both middle school and high school students who have completed their first year of band, but have not yet met the playing requirements for the Advanced Band.
BEGINNING BAND
The Beginning Band is for players who have never played a band instrument. Students will have the opportunity to choose and learn a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument.
JAZZ BAND
Advanced Band students may elect to audition for the ACA Jazz Band. Students will learn how to interact and perform through jazz literature. They will also learn the foundations of improvisation and jazz theory. The entire Jazz Band will begin rehearsing after school in the weeks following marching band season.
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
Membership in the ACA Percussion Ensemble is required for all Advanced Band percussionists. Wind players may also participate in Percussion Ensemble if interested for certain performances. Being in the Percussion Ensemble allows students to dig deeper into the fundamentals of a variety of percussion instruments and musical styles that are normally not covered in Advanced Band. Additional after school rehearsals are usually held in order to prepare for concerts & competitions. The percussion ensemble is taught by Andy Martin, ACA’s percussion instructor.
CHORUS
The chorus provides ACA students with ensemble experience in vocal production techniques and part singing for mixed voices. Emphasis is placed on musical notation and theory, the rehearsal and performance of quality literature, and the development of musical literacy through sight singing instruction. Development in all skills and concepts necessary for continued growth in vocal performance is required. Activities will include concerts, festivals, competitions, and other performances.
The purpose of this course is to glorify God, while becoming better musicians, through a holistic choral and biblical experience. The institution of biblical studies into the choral program allows an extension in character for members that will enhance their relationship with their Creator through study and praise. This will be accomplished by performing a wide variety of choral literature, study of sacred and modern worship music, the understanding of music and the theory behind it, dedicated biblical study both inside and outside of the classroom, and character development through outside service and performance in the public community.
